Health and Safety

Health is a state of physical, emotional and mental well being. It is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Promoting healthy behaviors is the responsibility of parents, teachers, school and community to ensure the well being of all children. Safety programs are designed to educate children and/or parents to prevent injuries or death.

The Health and Safety Committee works together with Homestead staff, the school nurse, and parents to support and provide programs that promote student, family, school, and community health, well-being and safety. Programs and services may focus on:

  • Health Topics that promote personal health and well-being and may be related to Childhood Obesity,
  • Physical Fitness,
  • Environment,
  • Clean Air,
  • Immunization,
  • Vision/Hearing screenings,
  • Tobacco,
  • Second Hand Smoke,
  • Food Allergies,
  • Social/Emotional Awareness & Learning,
  • Nutrition
  • and Bullying.

Safety Issues that increase awareness such as Violence, Bus Safety, Stranger Danger, Childhood Accident Prevention and Internet Safety may also be addressed.

Health and Safety Volunteering

Health and Safety committee volunteers may be asked to help plan, develop, coordinate, and run a particular event or program or may be asked to assist with elements of an event such as Walk to School Day.  Please contact Stephany Hunt at if you want to help in any way.
